17-year olds who will turn 18 on or before November 6, 2012, may register to vote and vote in the March 6 Primary Election. These 17-year olds may only vote for candidates seeking their party nomination to the November ballot. 17-year olds may not vote on candidates to be presidential delegates, state or county central committee candidates or questions and issues (such as tax levies and liquor options).

Parties participating in the primary are Democratic, Republican, Libertarian and Green. Voters who want to remain independent may request a Questions and Issues ballot, and they will vote only on the tax levies and local liquor option issues, if there are any in their precinct. Only 98 of the county's 475 precincts have a Questions and Issues ballot.
